The Woolshed

A reinterpretation of classic tavern culture for Melbourne’s Fitzroy, The Woolshed blends industrial heritage with warm hospitality. The design emphasises a robust material palette, flexible dining zones, and a clear connection between interior rhythm and street life.

Project

The Woolshed

Location

Docklands, Melbourne

Status

Completed

The Woolshed was a hospitality refurbishment located on Melbourne’s Docklands waterfront. The project reworked an existing industrial shell into a contemporary venue defined by robust materials, open planning, and strong visual connections to the harbour. Polished concrete, timber, and controlled lighting established a balance between scale, warmth, and functionality.

The interior was organised into distinct zones including a central bar, dining area, and flexible event space, defined through lighting, material shifts, and spatial proportion rather than walls. Since completion, the Woolshed Pier has been demolished and the venue no longer exists, making the project a record of a now-removed waterfront condition and a specific moment in Docklands’ ongoing redevelopment.
