The Mount Helen Residence was designed as a contemporary family home responding to its open landscape and regional context. The layout prioritises orientation, views, and natural light, with living spaces positioned to engage with the surrounding environment while maintaining privacy from neighbouring properties.

The architectural language is restrained and purposeful, using simple forms and a clear spatial hierarchy to create a calm, functional home suited to long-term occupation.

The design emphasises connection to landscape through controlled openings, sheltered outdoor areas, and a strong relationship between interior and exterior spaces. Material selection was guided by durability and low maintenance, ensuring the home performs well across seasonal changes typical of the Ballarat region.

The result is a considered residential project that balances openness with comfort, and contemporary design with a grounded, regional sensibility.
