The Ivanhoe East Residence involved the renovation and reconfiguration of an existing dwelling to improve spatial clarity and day-to-day usability. The design approach focused on selectively opening up the interior while retaining the character and scale of the original home.
Interventions were carefully placed to enhance circulation, increase natural light, and create stronger connections between key living areas without overworking the existing structure.
Rather than a full rebuild, the project prioritised refinement and adaptation. Existing elements were reworked where possible, with new insertions clearly expressed through material contrast and detailing. This approach allowed the renovation to feel cohesive while still legible as a contemporary update.
The outcome is a home that feels more open, functional, and responsive to modern living, while maintaining a grounded, residential character appropriate to its suburban context.
